2019 Novel Coronavirus / 2019nCov / Wuhan Virus in Taiwan

news taiwan travel

The situation of 2019nCov is well-controlled in Taiwan, but some of the airports are not recommended to transit due to local quarantine policy. Please check Taiwan CDC website for the latest information 2020/02/27 15:17

Recommendation on the flight to Taiwan

We have two international airports:

  • (Taiwan) Taoyuan International Airport (TPE)
  • Kaohsiung International Airport (KHH)

And two domestic airport has some international flights between nearby areas such as Hong Kong, China and Japan.

  • Taipei Songshan Airport (TSA)
  • Taichung International Airport (RMQ)

As Taiwan is small and usually all our birding are focused in central and northern Taiwan, it's recommended to use TPE airports to save the budget. For the international flights, the flight visiting KHH usually would be more expensive than visiting TPE. However, if you fly from nearby airport such as Hong Kong or Philippines, using KHH would be okay.

What you have to know about how 2019n-Cov/Wuhan Virus affect us

The conclusion: don't transit via Hong Kong, Macau, South Korea and airports in Hubei, China (latest information in late Feb).

For the airport you can use to transit, it’s hard to recommend now due to the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) or Wuhan Virus. Please don’t use any airport in China including Hong Kong for transition at this moment. For the nearby country some of them the 2019n-Cov is getting worse recently. We can’t tell the future at this moment, The airports in central Asia looks good at this moment. If you can avoid transiting in Asia (such asin middle East via Emirates or Turkish Airline) or using directly flight (for example, China Airline has direct flight between LGW and TPE), it would be better. .

Is Taiwan safe now?

Yes, it's safe. We have very good healthy insurance system to protect us. Every single case of infection are controlled by the Taiwan CDC.

However, now (late Feb 2020), the 2019n-CoV / Wuhan Virus is still wild spread in China and Eastern Asia. 14-day home quarantine to be required for travelers transiting through China, Hong Kong, Macau, South Kora and granted entry into Taiwan. In WHO website, all the cases in Taiwan are treated part of China. But the virus is well-controlled in Taiwan. Please check our CDC (Center of Disease Control) for the latest update.

Hope the virus can calm down as soon as possible.
